Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is GPS lawn measurement?

Smartphone GPS is typically accurate to within 3–5 meters under open sky. LawnMate shows a real-time accuracy indicator so you can see your signal quality while measuring. For most residential lawns, this provides area estimates within about 5–10% of professionally surveyed values. For best results, measure on a clear day and walk slowly along the perimeter. See our lawn measurement guide for detailed tips.

Does LawnMate store my data on a server?

No. All your measurement data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. Your GPS coordinates are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any server. You can delete your data at any time through the app or by clearing your browser storage. See our privacy policy for full details.

Is LawnMate really free?

Yes. LawnMate is completely free to use with no premium tiers, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. The tool is supported by advertisements. You can learn more on our about page.

What devices does LawnMate work on?

LawnMate works on any device with a GPS sensor and a modern web browser. This includes most smartphones and tablets from the last several years (iPhone, Android, iPad). It also works on laptops with GPS capability, though phones are ideal because you carry them while walking your lawn.

Will my measurements be lost if I clear my browser data?

Yes, because measurements are stored in your browser's localStorage. You can use the Export JSON button in the History tab to save a backup of your measurements before clearing your browser data.

Can I use LawnMate for professional surveying or legal purposes?

No. LawnMate uses consumer-grade GPS and is intended for estimating lawn care product needs. It should not be used as a substitute for professional land surveying for property boundaries, legal disputes, or construction planning. See our terms of service for more information.
